Last week we returned from a week-long trip to Switzerland and Italy – with baby in tow – and it was quite an adventure! We began our trip with two days in Lausanne. My IMD MBA Class of 2008 was celebrating our 10-year reunion, which means I’ve now been blogging for more than 10 yearsContinue reading “Eurotrip with the Bambino”

Austin BBQ Tour
Katie had a conference in Austin and I had customers, vendors, and investors to visit there, so we coordinated our trip together. Of course I also took the opportunity to indulge in a little Texas BBQ while I was in town. North Carolina has excellent BBQ, but it is pretty limited to whole hog pulledContinue reading “Austin BBQ Tour”
Hiking in Switzerland
A friend of mine recently asked me for hiking recommendations in Switzerland but, for better or worse, I spent most of my time running along the lake rather than hiking up into the mountains when I lived there. Finding myself woefully unable to advise him, I sought out hiking recommendations from my Swiss friends. HereContinue reading “Hiking in Switzerland”
Travel Recommendations for Toscana
A friend recently let me know that she would be traveling to Tuscany and was seeking recommendations both for tourist travel and wine travel. Having lived in Florence and spent much more time since then traveling around bella Toscana, I compiled the following recommendations for her: Firenze There are a million more things to doContinue reading “Travel Recommendations for Toscana”
Weekend in Charlottesville
This weekend Katie and I sneaked off for a brief trip to Charlottesville, Virginia. I hadn’t been to Charlottesville since looking at colleges 20 years ago; some things have stayed the same, but much has changed as well. Charlottesville is now full of farm-to-table restaurants and posh gastropubs. While much of the city was closedContinue reading “Weekend in Charlottesville”
November Whirlwind
November was a whirlwind! We were barely back from Dubai when we hopped on a plane to Austin, Texas, for a dear friend’s wedding. It was a grand affair and, although we were only in town briefly, it was long enough for us to get our fix of Tex-Mex, BBQ, etc. Shortly thereafter I wasContinue reading “November Whirlwind”
IMD Reunion in Dubai
Last weekend Katie and I joined my IMD classmates for a reunion in Dubai. It was our first time to the UAE and it left quite an impression! We departed Wednesday night and, after the longest flight I’ve been on in some time – possibly ever – we arrived Thursday evening. We checked in withContinue reading “IMD Reunion in Dubai”
International Travel
Over the past month I have been an international traveling machine. First I went to Switzerland for a couple of days. It was early autumn when I first visited the country, so it always feels nice to visit this time of year – like returning to my second home. The weather was gorgeous, so IContinue reading “International Travel”
Weekend in Roanoke
Katie and I took advantage of the holiday weekend to take a quick trip to Roanoke, Virginia, which neither of us had visited before. Roanoke is the economic hub of southwest Virginia and is less than three hours from Chapel Hill by car. We drove up Friday after work/school and arrived in time for dinner.Continue reading “Weekend in Roanoke”
Weekend Getaway to Abingdon, VA
This weekend I spirited Katie away on a surprise trip to Abingdon, Virginia. She has been working hard on her master’s thesis so deserves a little R&R – even if I have to impose it on her! We stayed at the Martha Washington Inn, which began in the 19th century as a women’s boarding school,Continue reading “Weekend Getaway to Abingdon, VA”
